Make a choice
If you go to a place of instruction, I would assume you feel there are things that you need to learn. If you are going to pay to go to a place of learning, you must find value in the instruction provided. The above is the logical conclusion BUT every few months I get an idiot who defies logic. A naturally talented athlete with..... let’s call them mental issues, comes into the gym to take class. He takes the 3 free classes and schedules a time to come back and pay to be a member. We worked together 2 of the 3 times and all seemed well. On sign up day training went sideways. A drill turned into a nightmare real fast and our mental case was shown the door. Lack of ability to be instructed, overtly aggressive acts combined with a verbal outburst ruined any chance to be a member of my crew.
I could have continued the negativity and thrown down a beating, but it really would have been a pointless act. If our friend escalated things we definitely would have vigorously defended ourselves but this was a one sided war of words with the only loser walking away without the chance to a part of something greater then himself. The entire affair was ridiculous but it did add some comic relief to our training session. We all got a really good laugh out of it, then we went back to work because that is what we do. While others talk about their greatness, we train.
To be a part of something, you have to make a choice to actually participate. If you are a student, listen and learn. In time you may be a leader, then you will teach and continue learning. As an individual, you can do whatever you want. As a team, you have to do what is best for your group. Most things in life are an individual goal supported by a group effort. No matter how high you rise, you have to respect and care for those that help you get there.
If you want to train with me and my crew or any crew for that matter, make a choice; You are either a part of this group or you are not. There is no in between.
