Winning! It at one time was a word used by Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill, and the great Vince Lombardi but now has dropped a few pegs to be associated with Charlie Sheen. If you would like to elevate the discussion a bit; read on. If not; go rent Wall Street and catch a rerun of 2 and a Half Men.
Vince Lombardi once said “Winning is not a sometime thing. It is an All-Time thing”. Winning is a lifestyle that has a certain psychology and way about it. Vince said one other thing I would like to add to the discussion; “Show me a good loser and I will show you a loser.” You are either a winner or you are not. Sometimes is not enough.
I am not talking about an obsessive or out of control desire to win at everything from thumb wars to ping pong at the risk of a mental melt down if it doesn’t go your way. I am talking about never accepting defeat and always striving to be the best. Forget about the happy ideal about being your best. I am talking about straight up being THE best.
If you don’t believe you have the potential for greatness you will never maximize your existence. You must be bold and daring in your quest to be the best. Bruce Lee said he would live forever because of the great things he achieved while alive. He was right. Nobody is forgetting him anytime soon.
I had a young fighter lose a bout the other night on paper but in reality he won. He is going through some really hard times and getting into that ring was a monumental task. He was in no mental condition to win a fight but the process of preparing, then doing, made him confront his situation and make a commitment to positive change. BOOM! That is truly WINNING! Screw the trophy and medal this boy just woke up and became a man.
Don’t compete if you don’t care about winning. You won’t. Don’t try and live your life thinking it is “OK” to lose. Accept nothing short of Winning in all things. It is your life, why not be remembered?
