To many times I see people forcing their views down other’s throats while claiming “It’s for there own good.” Bullshit, it is for the ego of the trainer/leader. We need to put our ideas out for people to see. If they identify with them and choose to participate, we can get started on reaching those goals. You can’t force feed your ideas to people. You cannot build long term success without a commitment from trainer and member. We all have to be on the same page.
We work to hard to be training with people we don’t see eye to eye with. I know I am kind of hard and my ways are not for everyone. I hope everyone can find their way and if mine happens to be a part of it – Great! If not, I wish you all the best on your path. Don’t force it. Don’t train somewhere because that is where the cool kids are. Don’t try to be something you are not.
Most of the places I see market themselves to be the only choice out there. They are the cheapest, best, coolest, etc….. Whatever. You need to find the fit for you. There are always choices. Go check them out and don’t be sold. Find something you believe in.
If you don’t believe in anything, go to the closest big box gym and sign up for the cheapest rate. If you want more then a membership that gives you access to bright lights and neat machines, search for a place with a philosophy that matches your own or has produced the results you want.
See who is actually training somewhere. If they fit the idea of who you are or what you want to be, you are good. If the only thing that looks like what you want is in photos on the wall, you are in the wrong spot. Its not about airbrushed pics of steroided out models. Its about the real results you can find on someones training floor.
Long term, sustainable success will only be achieved in a place where you feel welcome, challenged, and supported. Go find your tribe!
