How engaged are you with your life? Do you freestyle this existence or do you have a plan that you track and adjust? Do you recognize your contribution or detraction to society, do you even care? If you do not recognize what it is you are doing, its effect on yourself plus those around you, and recognize its effect on achieving whatever goals you have set; you are lost and disengaged.
I am not a religious man. I have no denominational affiliation but I did go to Catholic school and I have an understanding of the concept of sin. At this point in my life, I have come to the conclusion that the only real sin is a misuse of the opportunities life brings us. If we do not learn from mistakes and appreciate our impact on the world around us, we are living in sin. We were born with great promise and we all have the same opportunity – yes, we all have the same opportunity to rise or fall by our own hand. If you choose to feel different, you will allow your starting point to be your end and you will waste much time complaining while the real achievers are grinding out their dreams.
You have choices to make every moment you are breathing. These choices are your legacy, your impact, what you leave behind…. If you want to live forever you have to take actions that will affect the world forever. You have to live a world class, extraordinary life that inspires future generations and creates action well beyond your years. I truly believe we all should aspire to live this way. It doesn’t matter if you are a street sweeper or a CEO, you have an opportunity to be world class at what you do and have a positive impact on the world around you. Your efforts, when world class, are never to be forgotten.
I have been inspired by poor men to be better as much as I have been entertained by millionaires thru media. The poor man who made me better will be remembered more clearly and passionately then the entertainer who made my time easier. Life is about evolution and advancement, not entertainment and distraction. I had a history teacher that you will never know affect my life in ways I cannot repay. He has passed, but he will always be in my experience. I cannot go anywhere in the world without hearing the stories he told of history and personal travel. This was a great man. Men like this are the people we all should and can aspire to be.
You can decide to engage your life, track your progress, adjust when you fall short, and be a great addition to society or you can be caught up in distraction that limits your ability to be remembered while alive. I choose to be world class, to be greater than the station I was born into, to have no limits, and to have a positive impact that will be remembered well beyond my years.
Be engaged and make history instead of being a spectator.
