Are you the one shouldering the bulk of the responsibilities in your world? Are you the one everyone just expects more from because you are “strong”? It’s not easy being the one people depend on.
Many of us are the key person. To really be that person we have to take care of ourselves so we can take care of others. This means you have to carve out time for yourself to do the things that keep you sharp, keep you strong, and maintain your status as the go to person. It is not selfish to care for yourself, it is an imperative.
In taking care of others it is easy to lose ourselves. The problem becomes that we forget about our own needs for so long that we end up needing those we are caring for to care for us. We let things slide so far that we lose that edge we once had that made us the leader. We gain weight, lose strength, get sick, and assorted other things because we forgot that we have take care of us 1st so we can take care of everyone else!
It’s not selfish to put yourself 1st. You have to! When others depend on you, you have to take care of yourself so you can be the person that you are expected to be. If those that depend on you can’t understand that, they don’t deserve you.
Take the time to ground yourself, maintain your strength, and be the person you, plus others, expect you to be. Actually be strong, not just in people’s minds, but in the real world when you are really needed.
