Same story, different business. Failing businesses tend to have the same thing going on; the owner is blaming everything but themselves for the failure of the business. Being an owner on paper is not what being a real owner actually is. You have to own everything, not just the financial interest. You have to assume responsibility for all of it, the good and the bad.
I am a good guy, I am good at what I do… it’s the location, the staff, the customers, the illuminati… I deserve better because I am so good…. Seriously, cut the shit and get real about things. You are not that good and it is all your fault. You are getting your ass kicked by a marketplace that cares about itself, not you. You forgot that your job is not to tell people how great you are, it is to provide a solution for a need of the market – period!
The shitty staff, you hired them. The bad location, you picked it. The customers that don’t get it, you took their money. It is all on you, everything. Look at yourself before you point fingers. Finger pointers are also prey for predators. There are a long list of predators that are looking to take your money. They are looking to tell you what you want to hear so they can get you to commit to some magical plan that capitalizes on your greatness…. Don’t spend your money until you accept responsibility for your actions and have the humility to actually learn and change.
Running a successful business is not that hard once you embrace some simple things and take 100% ownership of everything in your business. You are the person at the top, everything below you is created, accepted, or hired by you. Don’t go micro manage the shit out of everything, go find the right people, treat them well, and make sure that the accumulative efforts of the team add up to the success you are looking for.
If it’s going to shit, look inward. You have all the answers, you just have to be humble enough to admit you have been wrong and strong enough to do the work that will get you back on track. Help is available, just make sure you are ready for it.
