When you win the phone doesn’t stop ringing. When you are down after a loss or hurt, where did everyone go? One day you are the man! The next you are forgotten. But! If you live an honest life and don’t get caught up in the opinions of others, none of it will matter and you will always find what you need to be satisfied.
Recognition is nice, but it doesn’t really mean much. If you do what you do well, the recognition will be there. The reverse is also true, if you are so horribly bad, like the worst ever, the attention will be there too. Attention only has value as long as you bring value to the audience. Get caught up and think the world owes you because you feel famous, what do you do when the fame has moved onto the next up and comer?
The key to everything is value. Be good at what you do in a way that benefits others and you will always make money and will always have something to be happy about. Just be who you are and care about the people around you. It really is all that simple. To be really good at something is hard work, being good to people is easy.
I did think people owed me because of how hard I worked on my fight career. I woke up broke and alone, I realised I was looking at it wrong. It wasn’t about me, it has always been about how can I translate my experience to others in a positive way. This is why I have found the success that alluded me, the relationships I always wanted, and a family that I never could of imagined. Forget about the professional, my wife and son came directly from my pivot and that makes everything I have ever done and will ever do worth it.
Getting over ourselves is so important. Get over your past, get over your need for attention, and just go be you in a way that provides value. It will bring you more good things and it will keep you grounded so life doesn’t fly from your grasp. No matter if you are on the bottom or the top, be you and ride the waves. You will be up and you will be down, don’t let it change who you are and what you can provide the world.
